The Ten Beatitudes

The Ten Beatitudes

Wisdom for a fulfilling life

Matthew 5:1-16

1 And when he saw the crowds, he went up into the mountain; and when he was seated, his disciples came to him. 2 And opening his mouth, he taught them, saying:

3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

5 Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.

10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are ye, when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall speak every evil word lyingly against you for my sake. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in the heavens; for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

13 You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become weak, wherewith shall it be salted? It is good for nothing more than to be thrown out and trodden down by men.

14 Ye are the light of the world: a city that is set on the top of a mountain cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a lamp, and put it under a bushel, but on the lampstand, and it shineth unto all that are in the house. 16 So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in the heavens.
